After discussing with Mister C, the theme for this month is HDR or High Dynamic Range. This technique allows a level of detail to be retained that would normally be lost as most cameras cannot cover highlight and shadow at the same time. Basic method is three images of the same scene, one under exposed, one normal on one over. They are then combined. I use AutoHDR which is free but there are other programs. Best to use a tripod unless you are good at hand holding as the images need to line up, and it helps if your camera has bracketing mode. You can go for subtle or over the top. It is also possible to use a RAW image and edit one under/normal/over and then combine those.
