How much gravel track, rocks, mud and river crossings with rocky beds did you do during those trips though?
I'm not intending to stick to paved roads, hence a bike with knobbly wheels. The pirellis fitted to the ADV are more than capable of scraping the panniers on the road, and far more capable than any regular road tyre off it, so they're a good compromise
If I'd wanted to tour the nicely paved bits of europe and slightly beyond I'd have bought something like the SMT, same engine but more road biased, but tbh the ADV is more than capable of handling the road sections, while being capable of some heavy duty off-road riding too, it's a compromise, but not one that will limit my riding anywhere...
