I'm the owner of a 1.9 85 bhp (remaped) since april and I'm quite happy with it. The only problem has been a leak in the intercooler, 430£, and i've don circa 7k miles.

Had similar budget as you and the van had 105k miles when i bought it, it is a tight budget if you want something decent but if you are patient I'm sure you'll find it.
