Default Re: carlsberg rideout final details and info

this thread is for the route map, meeting time and to create a running list of attendees ONLY. If you have any questions, comments or chat, please take it to the original "Yorkshire Dales" thread.

Confirmed route, starting times and other details:

  • Meeting Point = "Clifton Moor Retail Park"... Point "A" on the map.
  • It has a tesco superstore, tesco fuel station and a burger king all sharing the same carpark. We will gather near the burger king as it's a quieter bit of carpark which is never used...
  • We will be departing from point "A" at 11:00 am sharp on Saturday 16th of May. If you wish to grab some food and have a natter, please turn up early or forever be known as "the nonse who made us all late". I will be hanging around looking shady from around 9:45
  • The complete route is 115miles, so unless you're coming on a ridiculously thirsty machine with low gears, we won't be stopping for fuel.
  • Currently there is one planned stop at point "C" which is around an hour into the ride. This carpark has an amazing view over the valley, and will give people a quick break to stretch their legs and share opinions on how amazing north yorkshires roads are.

Please bare in mind

1) Not only is this a large group ride, some of the roads are seriously twisty in parts. Take it nice and steady & you will be absolutely fine. Pick up the pace a little too much, and you will probably end up in a big heap next to a big heap of bits which was once a bike. I know these roads fairly well & they still catch me out every once in a while...

2) Further to safety, I've no doubts that we'll see a few of North Yorkshire's finest traffic officers along the way, what with the nice weather & the last trickles of summer bikes coming back out of storage, they'll be on the prowl to fill their quota's for speeding bikers. I know we're all a pretty sensible bunch (apart from badger but he's not coming) so it doesn't really need saying.

and the 3rd point:

2nd man route marking system
  • Everyone should please be familiar with the second man route marking system
  • Riders not confident to mark a junction should not ride directly behind the leader. Move over when safe and allow someone else to take the "2nd man" position. Do not under any circumstances just "follow the leader" with no other marker in place as this will result in people going all over the place at random.
  • If you get left as a marker unwittingly, or there is any doubt as to whether people know where they are going at a junction, turn or roundabout, wait for the Tail-ender to pass and rejoin.
  • I apologise if I am teaching any old dogs how to suck eggs but people getting lost will result in delay and spoil the ride somewhat...
  • This will be a ride of steady pace, no heroics please. None will be left behind with the marking system used. Do no feel pressured to keep up/stay ahead.
And finally...

Once we reach the end of the ride where the a59 crosses the a1237 there's a petrol station for the die hard lot to refuel and make their way home, head on somewhere else or do the ride again if you enjoyed it.

If any of you have any questions, pm me or davepreston and we'll do our best to sort you out with the answers. Add your name to the list below if you're coming
