When I got my SV it was too bouncy and obviously set for someone much lighter. I just set it up a couple of notches and it's been fine since.

Ive just noticed this post and wanted to correct a very common misunderstanding.
The standard SV shock only has preload adjustment and this is only to alter the height of the bike when you (and possibly pillion) sit on it. There is no change to bouncyness as the spring and damping stay exactly the same because all youre doing is changing the position of the damping piston within the shock.
This is useful because with the bike loaded you dont want the piston to sit too close to one end or the other of its travel as it could bottom out when subject to a large bump. Another way to avoid this would be to change the spring to one that puts the piston in the right position for the load but of course this means changing it everytime you take a pillion or eat too many pies! Bouncyness can only be changed by altering the damping of the shock....
