There should be two seals, you'll see the two grooves in the caliper. My opinion is that if the corrosion damage can be felt with your fingernail, the pistons are toast. That was the case with my spare calipers, although in that case one looked like damage from pliers as well. Four stainless steel pistons == about 75 quid. But don't splash out on pistons until you're sure the caliper bodies are OK.
