Take the bottom off and have a quick look to see if the mechanism functions as per the video. . Check the metering in a dark area and see if it works at low shutter speeds. Ideally, it should make a cat-like miaow... Seriously. Lol.
Can you cut a piece of mirror to size? From a ladies compact mirror for example. Quite thin and plenty of those in the charity shops.
