Dunno if there's a lurker in the Bristol area. I always look nationally at these things as I know people all over, but I travel around a lot with work. A couple of times it's come together, or like the K1000, someone benefits.

I've seen quite a few posts on forums about what camera etc. Simple answer is, what do you want to shoot? If she's going to shoot buildings etc. then anything will do. If it's more going to be grabbed shots (the term "vernacular photography" seems to be in just now) then some automation or at least aids to speed things up are high on the list, like a meter. And depends a bit how much time they want to spend thinking about it, or just subject metering and bam, NEXT! I usually try to skim read a manual of something I'm interested in, find out how it works, see if it's what I'm after. I'm picky thought I guess!
