Harsh but probably fair. I do tend to fiddle around and get what I think is the best solution.

Unfortunately a former owner removed the original loom two pole connectors in favour of twisted wires and sticky tape, so the ready made adapter leads don't really help. "Very expensive" connectors are going to cost less in any case.
