It does look like a lorry. Ebikes with pedals usually let you choose the amount of assist required. Mine has 4 levels. Level 1 is barely noticeable (until you turn the bike off). Level 4 feels like the chain had come off and there's no resistance on the pedals.
I vary between 2 and 3 depending on the terrain and how fast I want to go. Even on a chosen level the amount of assist will vary according to how much pressure you put on the pedals. There's an lcd gauge on the dash showing how much the motor is working. So whizzing down a hill the gauge will drop to zero, going up the hill the gauge will rise as it feels you struggling.
So can get as much or as little exercise as you want.
