I relaid my garage/workshop floor a couple of years back. Thoroughly recommend two-pack epoxy floor paint, way way more durable than normal floor paint. DIY do-able, I used the solvent based version from
here , very smelly to use but very good.
For workshop use, I picked up a couple of thick rubber workstation mats from a place in Brum, I've seen the same thing on ebay, around £17 each I think. Comfy and keeps the cold out of your feet.
