You can get away with desnorkelling the pointies airbox.

Basically the airbox acts as a resonating chamber, changes to the airbox volume affect the power delivery. Can give a boost at certain rpms.

JHS sell a retaining band so you can get rid of the airbox lid. Needs dyno set up.

Not that different fuel economy, as you won't use that extra power all the time.
