MOST cars these days are fitted with a switch on the brake pedal that not only activates the Brake lights,but also tells the Engine management system that the driver is braking.
The ECU then basically aknowledges this.
IF the throttle is open at this point the ECU,after a pre-determined time period,WILL cut either the Fuel or the Ignition system to the engine.
This system has been installed because alot of cars now use 'Fly-by-Wire' technology,and if it goes wrong there is no mechanical link between the pedal and throttle valve/injection system.
SO
If the guy had hit the brakes,this,I would think,would have solved his problem.
Or he could have switched the Ignition off.
