Here's my pain cave, although you can't see my 'Smart' turbo trainer in the picture, but basically it increases or decreases the resistance on the bike subject to the gradient. Controlled by a little Acer PC via whatever platform I'm using.

Spent an hour and a bit climbing the Col Du Telegraph this morning, which has an average gradient of 7% and a max of 10.5%.Not the kind of workout I can get in flat East Anglia to prepare for the mountains in July When I did this climb a few years ago, it took an hour and 37 minutes, so not far off reality.

Certainly made my legs ache!

Also helps to get a good workout when I'm limited for time or the weather is shizz
