With the kindly help of the Vintage Camera Repair Group on Faceache I think the FM is up and running. The issue was the mirror not latching. Under the tripod mount is a screw with an eccentric ( spelling probably off, but you know I mean wobbly screw) axle. A slight adjustment and it seems to be working OK.
