I am also suffering from a sticky shaft (he he), it's been parcked up for a while and now I have problems when going down through the gears. To get around it I have to lift the lever up (as if I'm trying to go up a gear, but not lifting it all the way) before trying to go down the next gear!

I shall investigate the cause next weekend!
