Never look back from toe clips. I've worn them for 30+ years, even with my kids (just done a 6 mile ride with the 6 year old daughter). Be prepared to replace the straps annually, the fastenings loosen off with time.
I actually prefer cages to the Shimano cleats I have on the other bike.
