Default Re: Camera for travelling recommendations

to offer a fresh perspective...

pentax K100D

number of reasons for this...

- they use AA batteries (available everywhere)

- pentax haven't changed their lens mount since the 60s. therefore even old manual slr lenses work on it which can be picked up for pennies.

- the body itself can be picked up for around £50. so coupled with some beefy old lenses... you're getting equipment you can beat up while travelling without worry, and if it gets nicked? barely out of pocket.

- it's a good camera too. I have one as my spare/backup and I wouldn't be without it.

alternatively... for travelling, why not pick up an old slr? pentax K1000, olympus OM10? cheap as chips and you get something lovely to look forward to rather than 14,000 digital images of nothing. you can get the film processed and scanned onto massive digital files if you feel you want to do some digital processing afterward too. this usually costs anywhere from 99p (asda, but I think they've stopped doing it) to a fiver from any number of camera shops or online.
