I guess it rather depends on how you view posting on forums. I don't think of it as necessarily answering the original OP, more a case of throwing information into the pot for all to see, although it should be relevant to the original question to stay on topic....

If the original OP asked that question all those years ago you can bet there were others who saw it and benefited from the discussion, and by now there are probably a whole load more.....so resurrecting the thread with new information that hadn't been offered before can be useful.

What DonSteve is basically saying is that if you appear to have harsh initial suspension that it's quite possible you have to much preload in. This is actually very common as a lot of people wind on the preload thinking it makes the bike "Sportier" because everything feels stiffer, when all they are really doing is increasing the load needed before the suspension reacts.
