I nearlly did this with a car once, but that was back in the day when they used to be kind enough to send you a reminder. Although I'm sure it was an £80 they were threatening me with

Do they no longer send reminders?
Oh dear that could cost me a few quid as well.
Another stealth tax?

*sigh* Long gone are the days when you just had to SORN the vehicle once and didn't have to renew it each year... just tax it once it made it back on the road.

You mean you have to RENEW the SORN?

Surely not?

At least it can be done online now, no need to queue in the post office again.

The other daft thing that annoys is that you get sent the reminder early in the month and you cant action it until something like the 15th day of the month....by which time you've lost it/forgotten it/eaten it or whatever.

So, let me get this right. You tell the DVLA that your vehicle is off the road. So they know you are not taxing it. But if you fail to SORN it the following year (despite the fact that they already know if you've taxed it or not) they fine you.
