Angry Ten Grand Insurance Mindboggler

About to pick up krhall's lovely silver SV650SK3, and am researching insurance.

Most policies are for around the £220ish mark for me (38, no NCB due just returning from 8 years of no biking, licence 10 yrs, Hampshire).

The one from MCE is £9,778.53.

Yep, that's TEN GRAND You read it correctly.

Fortunately, I could pay in instalments - two and a half grand up front, nine hundred quid a month for ten months. Bargain, and they're doing me a real favour.

I'm guessing it's because the bike's modified, and the modifications are not listed in MCE's mod list (all about performance mods not cosmetic), therefore I chose "unlisted modification". It's only got a hugger, screen and road-legal can, not a helicopter engine and ejector seats (actually, come to think of it...)

Anyone know of a good company to buy insurance from?

"Insurance. The legally enforceable way to steal."

Be a little less honest with the mod delcaring?

MCE quote me £900 for a brand new SV Sport and I'm 19 and passed my test less than a month ago...

yikes, sounds like a real steal. Carol Nash are pretty good. Not overly bothered about mods such as yours, as I found out this year when I renewed.
mine....279 squids for 2 Svs on the same policy. fully comp. both modded with the usual cans, pans and huggers etc

Thats taking the PISH, I know its slightly different but I have a highly modified Impreza all mods declared and im 29, paying £465 a year.

I dont know what they are like for bikes but I'm with A-Plan, worth a call, they arent scared off with mods.

It's the nature of a regulated insurance industry; if they don't want to insure you, they can't refuse you insurance - that can only be done under certain circumstances as ultimately it's part of your record and one of the questions you're asked when you apply for insurance.

So the only option is to quote an absurd figure that you're never going to pay.

Express insurance had the best deal for me. Just added another bike to the policy too.

I've been quoted slightly more than £10k on a GSXR-1000 in the past.

That's the insurance companies way of telling you "we don't want your business!"

GoCompare.com & plugin the details.
