Hello orger's
SO on sunday I went to the reading festival. With the aim to 1) loose my voice and 2) get some degree of whiplash. The first band didnt deliver, the second band (alexisonfire) were good but I don't know enough of their songs to have got into them, then it was the dropkick murphys or something, which didn't feel very inviting, unless you had some irish blood in you. Plain white T's promted a mosh pit (the metalheads took the mickey, me thinks!) and then mindless self indulgence satisfied the young 'uns (i found them odd and quite annoying). Then the good stuff started. Feeder played in the slot originally for slipknot (joey jordison broke his ankle, and you cant drum effectivly with one leg...least, not when you need to play for slipknot) so they had pulled out a few days earlier. Feeder understood this was a hard slot to fill, so out of respect they played a song for Joey, and had "get well joey" written on the bass drum skin. Feeder were brilliant, it has to be said. Rather mellow and soft in comparison to what I normaly listen to, but they had some good songs, and got me going with the jumping about and putting my arms around people I didnt know, woo! Tenacious D were absolutly brilliant, they had a really good set, all theatrical and lotsa jokes. Even an off-the-cuff song about a train that Jack Black could see in the distance (it looked like a toy apparently ![]() Then The stage was prepared for the mightiest of all bands ever. As AC/DC played over the P/A system, we knew what was aboutt o go down. We were about to get our asses kicked. The stage lights went out. Then the Ecstasy of gold began to play. Oh god, was I really here? Was I really about to see them?! Lars walks onstage. Accompanied quickly by James, Rob and Kirk. METALLICA WERE HERE!!! Creeping death belted out, the crowd surged forward, mosh pits opened, I was crushed to within an inch of my life. Gasping for air I found the space I needed to let loose, to get my breath to shout along with my favorite band in the whole universe. James Hetfiled goaded us on, the band louder than anything I've heard on my life (including pete and lissa's SV!), the riffs to tight, the solo's melting my face, the bass and drums trying to kick me into submission. Metallica fight you every step of the way, and you got no choice but to fight back. Shout, mosh, headbang, let loose! Best song for me was No Remorse. Best moment was turning to some random kid and both of us shouting in each others faces the lyrics to the new song "cyanide". Right form the off, you could see it in james hetfileds eyes he was gonna work hard to try and kill us, he was great, kirk was great, rob trujillo was imense (he is the coolest guy ever) and lars is just brilliant, shouting back at us and being the tiny tearaway he is (i swear he has some form of ADHD) Sitting here, two days later, my neck is well and truley sore (Whiplash!), my throat still hurts, and I want more. Much more. Metallica isn't just a band, its a drug, its therapy, its a 25 year lesson in Riffage. Awesome, just awesome. Matt {edit} thought i'd put up the set list: Creeping Death For Whom The Bell Tolls Ride The Lightning Harvester of Sorrow Welcome Home (Sanitarium) Cyanide ...And Justice For All No Remorse The Day That Never Comes Master Of Puppets Motorbreath Nothing Else Matters Sad But True One Enter Sandman - - - - - Last Caress So What Seek And Destroy Last edited by Alpinestarhero; 26-08-08 at 10:38 AM. |

They are good live! Saw them at leeds fest I think it was 2004? But tbh they wernt as good as Prodigy who wernt as good as Guns N' Roses (Axel Rose and Co...). All brilliant though. Would love to see Tenatious D!
