Default Stall & oil light on when filtering

On my way to work this morning, filtering for around half an hour on the M-way when I near my junction, slow down the bike and start to move lanes when, around 20mph, the bike stalls and the oil light and oil can on the LCD both come on .

Bike (K8 - 5200miles) was in gear and wasn't low enough revs that would make it stall. It could be that it stalled as I was changing gear (can't remember what I was doing just before it stalled as I was concentrating on the road/traffic/lifesaver etc....but I have experienced the bike misfiring or missing a beat sometimes especially when coming off a long period of constant speed into 'town traffic')

Pulled onto the hard shoulder, put the bike in neutral, turned off the ignition. Turned it back on and re-started it....sounded a little bit groggy, gave it a few revs and it was runnning fine again.

Anything to worry about? I'll check the oil later today before setting off home. I cleaned the bike yesterday and gave it a very good dousing in ACF-50...is there a chance maybe some of it's got into the air intake or something? Or could it just be one of those things?

right don't worry about the oil light, only showed low pressure because the engine stopped.

Wet front plug perhaps?

It's a K8, so it's under warranty.

If you're worried, get it checked out. But also remember that the ECU remembers the last ride you were on (assuming it's the same as the K6 in this respect).

So next time it happens, if you can, DON'T turn the ignition off. If possible/safe, ride it to the nearest dealership & let them have a look at it. They'll be able to tell you exactly what happened.

It's worth considering, that if the oil light's have come on, that means low oil pressure (not low quantity). When the lights come on, generally damage has already been done (unless it's a simple stall indicator). Unless the lights came on for some other reason (electrical problems for example).

I had a K7 and drove through every kind of weather imaginable and the bike never missed a single beat. That could be because I had a fender extender on the bike though?

Most likely down to the Fender Extender, mind you my SV's haven't missed a beat because of water in the front plug and they have not all had Fender Extenders fitted.

Cheers for the responses, I have a fender extender and today, whilst it was damp, I've ridden through torrential rain and never had an issue .

I'm thinking it can only be one of 3 things, 1 - maybe some ACF-50 got somewhere it shouldn't and caused a temporary problem (I did put loads on everything except brakes etc yesterday and idled the bike until most of it had burnt off the exhaust etc), 2 - the bike 'missed' after being ridden for a 30 mins at low/gear speed and by conicedence I had clutch in whilst changing gear and bike happened to stall mid-gear change (seems v. unlikely), 3 - there's a problem with the bike.

As I said earlier, I've had the bike 'miss a beat' quite a few times before, but normally when I've been going quick (5th gear on m-way) for about 40mins and then slowed down when I've got into the city centre....I mentioned it at the 4,000 mile service and the dealer said that this happens with the fuelling as the ecu changes to suit the riding conditions (is this true/possible?).

Cheers for the info about the ecu Baph, but as I usually ride the bike to/from work and the dealer is miles in the opposite direction, going there before having to turn the ignition off isn't really an option.

this happened to my sv a few weeks back i had the same problem with cutting out but with no warning lights i ran really low on fuel as i was nowhere near a fuel station so i called the breakdown company and the time it took for the guy to get there the engine was really cold tryed to start it and it started no problem the breakdown guy followed me home but was thinking it was something serious but to this day i still havent been able to find out what the problem was had it in bits cleaned the carbs changed the plugs and leads must of been a wee bit of water in the tank or something but luck has it it hasnt happened again but the sv s are famous for getting the front plug damp so its been sprayed with plenty of wd40 also when i took the air filter out i noticed that there was some oil there and thinking is this normal so i washed that out with petrol and now the bike is running better than ever next thing to do is get a fender extender and a wee bit of acf for the winter hope to get a nice big shed built in the next couple of weeks just to keep it nice and dry but allways checking this site for any problems with the sv thanks AL
