So whose fault is it (lane splitting)

This is insane , why would anyone want to ride a motorbike like this anyway!!!!....I think the rider was way overconfident in himself and ended up paying for it .

Lane splitting is illegal anyway and who would expect a bike to be flying through stopped traffic like that ....I say this because i myself was waiting in traffic as a bike went speeding through and startled the heck out of me

Is it an acceptable excuse to blame the car driver??

The rider didn't see the white car on the left indicating.

Biker's fault IMO. Maybe 80/20 against the biker if they're lucky.

why wouldnt you filter? i filter when traffic's moving at 20mph or less then if something does happen i can react or it'll only be a low speed spill.

Yup, I do that pretty much every time I'm on the bike. However, the video is in LA, and in LA, as the OP states, "lane splitting" aka filtering is illegal. If you crash or not, it's illegal.

For that reason, the decision can only go against the biker, because they shouldn't of been there doing what they were doing.

But even if that happened in the UK, I'd of still said it was the bikers fault, despite filtering like that myself. As Gene Genie said, poor obs.

Ah I see, didn't know that. Yeah I noticed the car driver indicating, he obviously didn't though. Was very sudden, the car driver can't have looked properly, you would have thought a moving bike in stationary traffic was pretty obvious

whats the point of biking in a country where filtering is ilegal?

The car driver will probably not have any experience of bikes, and rarely sees a bike filtering. Why would they bother to look for bikes?

The rider also didn't see the gap that the white car wanted to move into.

EDIT: IMO, the car driver has every right to be p****d off with the rider, because their illegal actions have resulted in lost time, damage to their vehicle, and no doubt an insurance claim.

Oh dunno I thought the idea is to watch for them bits where there is a space in the lane next to a car. He maybe ought to have slowed down when he saw that space on the right.
