Default Home electric heater parts - any ideas?

The heater/fire (electric) in our lounge has given up the ghost. It was a mighty impressive display of sparks, if a little short.

Upon stripping the unit down, it's absolutely caked in dust & decaying spider webs, so I suspect that dust got to the wrong part of the heater & shorted out a connection, causing the sparking & the heater popped it's clogs.

Anyway, the heater is a Dimplex S/V20, and the heating element has the word Fergas (which I'm taking to be the manufacturer) and 50967, which I'm taking to be the model number.

I've tried a google search, to no avail, so was wondering if the fountain of knowledge (the .Org) knew anywhere I could get the heating element (or a compatible one) from?

There's a phone number on the back of the heater too, but I'm yet to call them - I suspect it'll be "pay us an extortionate fee and we'll give you the part, sorry, we don't know of any other retaillers due to the age of your heater."

Advice much appreciated.

This line right here, tells me you've had it a while - perchance a new one?

It's about 3 years old. Do you not know we're in a recession?

Chances are, the heating element can be bought for about £40 tops. A new fire/heater, you're looking £130-£300!!

Tight? Heh, I'm a Yorkshire-man!

Have you tried emailing dimplex? They should be able to at least tell you where you can get a replacement or if it is compatible with another element

You said it was covered in decaying spider webs and that dimplex prob wouldnt stock parts cos it was old- I presumed you meant it was about 20 years old! You got to keep the kids warm though mate, I take it you've tried google and eBay?!

It's exactly that sentiment that made me go out at lunch time & spend a ridiculous amount of money on a new fire.

Lesson for the day... never go shopping with a woman.

If I could of found the parts, I'd of repaired it. I hate the "throw away" culture that this country has become.
