Default New Tent Advice

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a tent to replace my 10 year old 3 man dome tent.

It's not going to get used for anything more than long weekends when the forecast looks good.

I've spotted this website. The specs are good and the prices extremely good. I'm interested in the Siberian Red 002 at £75 incl delivery.

http://www.the-camping-manual.com/siberian-red-002.html

It's a budget / space driven decission and looks hard to beat. It might be a risk since it's an unknown quantity, but it won't see any heavy duty camping trips.

Is it worth a pop?

Cheers

Fred

I only ever buy Vango - very known quantity.

Do you REALLY need all that space? Its going to be fairly big when packed down - heavy too.

If you just need a 3-man tent and dont care about seperation - http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/ac...Dome_Tent.html would be good

Do a search - there are discussions about tents on here every year due to the Annual Rideout, I have written a fair bit about them

Cheers dude.

The 3 man dome that I'm using just now is still going strong and will be used when heading off on the bike.

I'm after something with a bit more space for when we go away in the car and have the dog plus a sh*t load more gear with us. We were away at the weekend and struggled a bit with space.

I'll have a search on the forum.

Hmm now I understand your needs it gets a bit tricky to advise

On one hand I would say ignore that el-cheapo and but one that costs twice as much but will last three times longer.

On the other as you have the dog to consider - ie claws on groundsheets then would the expensive one REALLY last three times as long, or even twice.

My half-way would be buy a Vango of similar size to the one you linked to say this one - http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/ac...nnel_Tent.html and then get an old bit of carpet (or they sell justa thing on that site - see the bottom of the page for links) to protect the in-built groundsheet from claws.

We've got a Vango 3 man that we take to rallies, but we've also got a four man (cheap as chips) tent we got out of Argos. It's been brilliant. You can stand up in it and last year 6 of us sat, comfortably, in our camping chairs cowering from the thunder and lightening in it, at Brno.
Last week-end, we tried out our 6 man tent (2 x bedrooms - don't know if the OH was planning falling out with me?). Only had the 1 x bedroom put up and there was plenty of room for all our mates to pile in! Maybe not such a good idea - everything covered in beer the next morning!
In other words, more expensive tents are good, but the cheap stuff has it's uses too! A wee tip, if you can wait until the end of season, buy your tent then. You can pick them up half price!

Nice idea Kate, pick it up cheap, and chuck it in the skip at the end of the rally if it gets trashed!
