Default Binky and Lissa's Peak District Revenge (4th/5th September)

PLEASE KEEP CHAT IN THE ORIGINAL THREAD, USE THIS THREAD FOR INFORMATION AND IF YOU WISH TO ADD YOUR NAME TO THE LIST. QUESTIONS CAN ALSO BE ASKED IN THE OTHER THREAD.

Ok here we go. Routes are done, bunkhouse sorted, now for a little tidy up.

The weekend is to be held on the 4th/5th/6th of September at this place, not far from Matlock in the Peak District.

http://www.peakdistrictonline.co.uk/...hover/l41.html

Plan is to arrive Friday evening, get some grub then relax and sleep ready for the ride on Saturday morning. Back to the bunkhouse, for food, relaxing and sleep then Sunday's ride. Hopefully ending up at the bunkhouse on Sunday afternoon for goodbyes and to pick up luggage...

The bunkhouse is full now, but there are still camping places at £7.50 per night per pitch IIRC. This is to be paid on the date of the weekend as apposed to in advance. Alternatively feel free to arrange your own accomodation in local B+B's for example.

Now for the routes, for everyone to cast their judging eyes across.

Saturday: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...9,0.85968&z=10

Sunday: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...9,0.42984&z=11

Plan is to leave the bunkhouse in the morning at between 09.00 - 09.30. Will say a definite time nearer the event.

Rideout Tips for those unfamiliar.

- Introduce yourself to the ride organiser and swap mobile numbers with him and at least 1 other participant
- Arrive with a full tank of gas or as near as is practically possible.
- Tyre pressures checked and in good condition.
- Breakdown cover. Check if your bike is covered in the event of an accident or breakdown. Full recovery is best. And make sure you have contact numbers for them.
- ICE (In case of emergency numbers) These should be in your phone under that heading. Should someone need to be contacted on your behalf.
- Map. If you haven't got proper ones then rip out the page(s) of an old map book, or get a photocopy, or print one off the internet. It is NOT the responsibility of the organiser to get you home.
- If you're using a dark visor, bring your clear one as well.

- DO bring waterproofs. Just because it's sunny doesn't mean it's gonna stay that way.
- DO Keep an eye on your mirrors.
- DO Ride responsibly.
- DO Stagger your position on the road so as to maximise forward observation and braking distances. This also makes you visible in the mirrors of the bike in front.
- DO ENJOY YOURSELF

- DON'T Do anything you're not comfortable with. It's not a race .
- DON'T Follow too close to the bike in front.
- DON'T fixate on the bike in front.
- DON'T Assume the rider in front knows what he's doing.
- DON'T Stop if one of the group get pulled over.
- DON'T Worry about keeping up and what the others might think.
- DON'T CRASH!

Thanks Lissa

I'd like to add that we'll be using the second man drop off system which most are familiar with.
http://www.gwent-advanced-motorists.org/bikes/drop_off.htm

The leader and TEC will be made clear at the start of the ride and at every stop if the leader or TEC are to change. Normally a fluorescent jacket shall be worn.
If you are not comfortable marking or have never done it before do not find yourself directly behind the leader in second position. Let someone else through, safely.
The leader shall point or wait at spots where he wishes drop offs to mark. Please stop somewhere clear, obvious and safely, pointing the exit or direction to be taken by following riders.

Important points shall be reiterated on the day of the rides. So don't fear if you forget the above points.

See everyone come September, i can't wait.

Great routes Binky there are some fantastic roads you have chose there, but you might have to change the saturday route on the section from Fenny Bentley to Grange Mill (B5056) as the road collapsed on wednesday and is closed until further notice and they are expecting it to be closed for a few months, Ive put a link to show where it is closed between

The road has been like that for years and has had the lights on for the last 2 years at least, we were told by the management of the Tarmac quarry up the road where we work at regularly, that they have been in touch with the council and it could be next year before it could be fully reopened but they have got to survey how much damage there is as the banking is slipping above the road as well. I'm going up there later this week so I'll have a run down and see how bad it is.

Passed this on sunday just to see for my self and its still just the normal 2 collapses that are present both still controlled by lights and the road is fully open.

Alright you bar stewrads. After reading the posts, from last night, and also thinking the same, Lissa has now booked another bunkhouse. It also sleeps fifteen, but with bunkbeds. Seeing as there is an odd number i presume there is one single somewhere. Although deep down i am hoping for a triple decker bed.

Lissa has also kindly paid for all fifteen places, so if you wish to take up one of the places you must pay for both Friday and Saturday night, costing £19 (9.50 each night)

Please add your name to the list. I'm sure Lissa will be online later. Please PM her and arrange payment with her, please and thanks.

Remember to take your name off the camping. First come first served by the way.

Is anyone staying till Monday morning? I wouldn't fancy doing the trip back to Aberdeen after the Sunday run. Or is it possible to book a single place, or a smaller bunkhouse if there's more people?

Sorry dude,

Me & MrsCF both working on Monday, so we'll be loading the bike after the Sunday ride & heading back to Glasgow.

Riding back to Aberdeen after the Sunday ride would be nuts!
