At the time of writing this thread i am located at a random services on the M5 due to my sv breaking down!
So there i was enjoying a steady ride back from the NEC when i suffer from rapid power loss and no clutch! Coast to the hard shoulder to find i have no chain! It appears it had decided to vacate the bike somewhere ![]() So i reckon i can deal with the chain but whats the score with the clutch? Answers on a postcard.... Probably damaged the worm drive or took out the push rod when the chain came off.

As above, shouldn't be ridiculously expensive.

yeah same thing happened to me apart from engine fluid spilled everywhere... i mean EVERYWHERE! the chain had come off and snapped the "clutch rod" ( not sure on technical term but either way it left a hole in the engine where it was ment to be.) luckily my girlfriends dad is far better an engineer than i am and all i had to pay for was the parts. but as always, and maybe in your case, if the work cant be done at home it may have to me done by those who charge alot more for their time.
hope it works out. |

as said the rod has probably been taken out by the chain, of more importance is why the chain snapped, I would presume you checked it and lubbed it prior to a run like that, did it have any slack in it/ tight spots, or was it well over due for a check ?
Cheers Mark.

I've had a chain snap on me before. PITA tbh. heh. I was gutted to find that it was caused in manufacture. One of the posts (not sure what to call them lol) was weak in the middle and let go after just 6K miles.
![]() Hope you can fix it easily and quick ![]() |

Nothing to do with playing with the ride height and the oiler not working then?
