Curvy Bolt sizes.

Hi does anyone out there in SV land have a list of bolt sizes for a curvy. When i went to the BMF tail end show there was a pick and mix style stand selling anodised bolts and things and was hoping to compile a list of sizes so that come the next show i can buy all the ones i need

The trouble with the Japs is that whilst they tend to use standard ISO metric thread forms on the majority of the fasteners, the head (or tool) sizes can differ considerably from what one normally finds on a given size of fastener, which makes ascertaining what thread is used more difficult.

Although there is no standard tool size for any given thread, generally one would find that on a 6x1mm threaded fastener such as the sprocket cover bolts on an SV, a 10mm diameter head would be used, or a 5mm Allen key if it's an Allen type head. Whereas, the sprocket cover bolts have an 8mm head. Often one finds an M6 Allen type fastener which uses a 4mm Allen key insted of a 5mm.

The common threads found are M5x.8mm, M6x1mm, & M8x1.25mm. If you wish to buy replacement fasteners it's best to remove some of the ones you wish to change, & make a list of what's needed beforehand.
If you can't get exact lengths, purchase slightly longer ones which can be cut down to the length required.
Finally, be careful when replacing fasteners which are under load with another type, as a lot of the 'shiny' fasteners sold for 'blinging' up ones bike can be of pretty poor quality, & simply don't have the tensile & sheer strength needed for the application.

Over the years I've lost count of the times I've seen unsuitable fasteners used. Such as a ZZR1100 that blew its engine to pieces because the owner had fitted Anodised aluminium bolts to the cam chain tensioner. Or the pillock who used similar bolts on his brake discs (he was VERY lucky).

been an aircraft engineer I know all to well about using the right bolts for the right jobs. The main ones i was looking to change first were mainly on the bodywork. Not trying to go for the bling look just want to add a few subtle touches.
