Default K3 lights always on

On my newly acquired K3 the lights are always on when ignition is switched on, is this normal for UK models? if so and has anyone tried fitting a light switch?

You can probably fit a curvy lightswitch if you want but you'll lose the hazards. Or wire a switch in elsewhere.

My idea was to wire a separate switch - but trying to make a tidy job is another matter and since a lot of the lights are LED I don't suppose there's a massive draw when starting from cold - is it worth it?

Before you change it read the Constuction and use Regulations,I am sure there is something about AHO for bikes after a certain date in the granting of type approval. The time from turning the ignition on to pressing the starter is seconds, unless you leave the bike sitting with the ignition switched on.That is why you have key position for parking lights.
If you don't have an instruction handbook for the bike try and get hold,or borrow one and have a good read as many of your questions will be answered in the handbook.

Don't the headlights cut out when you actually thumb the starter to lessen the load?

I think so, but it's been so long. - surely that would take care of your concern?

The insurance company might take a dislike to such a modification if its not disclosed prior to a claim.

I checked yesterday and the lights are on during the start process but even with a weak battery it starts OK, had a look in a User Manual and it says "Start engine promptly after turning ignition ON or the battery will lose power due to the consumption by the headlight and tail light"
