I picked up the CG125 this morning and off Stretchie and I went to Cheddar and for a good bimble. Didn't get home til gone 6 and had a fab day. The twisties around Cheddar and on the way back were amazing and it felt great leaning the bike around the bends. I didn't feel nervous for any of it...just had the best time ever and I am buzzing now and can't wait to get back out again
![]() So...what were your first rides like??? |

Technically the first ride I had, was on a very big Harley, before my CBT, round a local carpark.
After I passed my CBT, my mate and ex instructor took me out on a ride, in which he gave me some seriously hard things to do, especially on a 125 Honda Rebel.....I hated him for that, but understood why he did it. BUT I still didn't want to go home!! At first the bike had an issue with the idle, and it kept conking out, Matt and Dean ended up with me round some dodgy alley in a dodgy part of town bike fiddling! My first ride on Suzy was a a right buzz. Matthew followed on the RD, I couldn't believe the size of it, wobbling out of his very bumpy drive and straight onto a 40mph straight ![]() So in all a bit of a mixed bag, but I wouldn't change any of it for the world.

Yeh I remember I started a thread like this on another forum, and it was right after my first solo.
I know the feeling you're going through. The buzz of that first ride when you have no one watching you, you can go where you want, and ride for as long as you want. It's an amazing feeling. My first solo was from MK to central london. My bikes battery had died whilst I was learning so I was really gutted. Then me and my mate managed to push start it (and what a feeling when it sprung into life), and off I was. Looking back I should have taken the A5 , but the M1 for a newbie biker was fun enough. When I got to London however it was slightly different. People were more aggresive, I was being out-filtered by scooters, and I really had to adjust my riding. Either way, when I got to my destination, and got off my bike, the feeling was incredible. Probably not had like it since. I remember when I first set off, I was like, Ok, first ride, just...don't...kill urself, lol! And I didn't so it was an achievement, lol. Naa but seriously, it was a great feeling. Oh yessss....and my first motorway experience went like this...
Dave and Derek in pub asked if I fancied going out to Squires on the Sunday. Yeah ok great. Gets to Daves house and he comes out with Derek, I'm ready to go, but where are their bikes? 'Oh in Wakefield in Dereks garage', just a short blip up the M62, you can follow us in the car...WTF I've never been on the motorway eee you'll be reet!!! All I'll say was I **** me pants on the slip road onto the M62 and Dave and Derek will never forget the look of sheer terror peering out from under the visor, as they looked in the rearview mirror. Had an absolute corker of a day trip tho! Maybe it has something to do with my love of motorways and complete lack of fear of them!!

I'd never straddled a bike before I went and got my license, a day's CBT and four afternoons DAS and all of a sudden I was sitting in the dealer car park on my brand new SV650, felt like I was gonna throw up, had to go and do a few laps of an empty industrial estate car park before I went out on the highway just to calm down Did a few miles that day and went on my first rideout the next day, by the end of the second day I was grinning from ear to ear and loving every minute ![]()

My first ride was on a Honda CG and I went to matlock from Derby like 60 miles, it was my first days training after my CBT and i loved every minute, the dual carriage way was scary at first, expecially on a CG that wouldnt top 60mph no matter how hard i tried, or tucked in. But once we got to the twisty lanes, and i relaxed a bit, i was hooked on biking forever. And the nods and waves i got from the other folk on bikes that way on, gave me confidence that i was learning a life changing thing, and i have
![]() first ride on me SV was on March 13th 2010, my mums 40th Birthday, and again i started nervously, and wobbled setting off and stopping at junctions and lights, but once onto teh open roads around Derby and Nottingham, i opened her up a bit and just fell in love and the kick was imense, ive used her everyday since, am now on 700 miles ![]() |

1976, riding a Honda CB125 from the dealers in Kendal back to Ambleside. It seemed to take forever, and was totally scary. CBT & DAS didn't exist back then. Prior to that I'd done about half a dozen spins on a private road of about 200yds in length.
