Default PX my SV for an old R1?

Hi folks,

Was in my local bike shop today and saw this:

1998_R1.jpg

Has anyone ridden/owned one of these?

Was offered a direct swap for my sv650n 58 plate.

What do you think? Crazy to get rid of my SV for a 10 year older bike?

Thanks for any input....

after a quick look your losing about a grand on that

I got rid of a k6 for a 10 year old bike. Never looked back

That R1 was a perfect shape. It'll never age

I got rid of a K5 which was like new for a 10 year old bike.

Only did it 3 weeks ago so I am yet to find out if it was the most sensible decision.

The new bike is so much more fun though I doubt i'll care.

I do like those R1s, all modern bikes appear to have followed that styling (pointy )

Would've got one myself but the blade is a little more practical.

Depends on the condition/mileage/state of the gearbox/service history etc, have you got any actual pics of the bike?

I like the 1st generation R1s, they are supposed to be bonkers! Just as a guide, I've got a year 2000 model and paid £3250 for it a year ago with 7000 miles on the clock and it was in very good condition.

7000 miles, cant really be in bad condition can it?

Im not sure about the change hollay, it does sound a little like they are stealing from you (in a sense). You unhappy with your bike at all?

Dunno, I test rode a 10 year old Fireblade with 1300 miles on it and it was knackered.

After 5 minutes on an R1 he'll be very unhappy with his SV

Perhaps. Depends on what you want from your bike I guess. He might well be disappointed with the power of the SV for sure, but in the long run an SV makes more sense on the road. (especially with todays fuel costs )
