Default zx6r g2 (1999) and honda hornet 600 (2003) peoples opinions?

my dad had a 2002 j2 zx6r and loved it

what do people think about the slightly older g2 1999 plate i have found one for £1999 with 14k on the clock and looks nice

and its only £50 more a year insurance than the sv

also been looking at a hornet 600 2003 same price but 19k on the clock what do people think about these? mum hated the 2000 plate she had

I've covered 53,000 miles on My 2001 ZX6R J2. I know of a G model with well over 100,000 on it still going well.

In all seriousness there were a fair number of detail changes between the G and J models, but the vast majority are cosmetic. The 6 pot calipers require maintenance as there are a lot of pistons to get stuck. That aside it's the same as any other 2nd hand bike.

The Hornet is a very different bike, the riding style with the wide bars will be something you prefer, or not. However, again I wouldn't be scared of a few miles on one. Chain & Sprockets, shocks etc can all potentially be worn, but the motor should be fine.

It's your life but a couple of things spring to mind. How many crashes have you had? And you're still on a restricted licence? If you rode the Ninja derestricted it'd be pretty obvious, I'd have thought.

Seems like a lot of cash for an 11 year old bike but maybe I'm just tight.

You know two people with a 100,000 plus on a ZX6-R G1?

The G2 is just about identical to my G1, the only difference that an owner will notice is paint and decals - same colours but different schemes.

Two thousand pounds could be a lot of money for an eleven year old bike - but if it's a good one it's got a lot of life left in it yet. The ZX6 G & J are great bikes, comfy, economical and ultra reliable, and, in the right hands*, can be persuaded to go quite fast too.

The price seems slightly high, but if there both good examples it could be worth it.

The insurance is something to bare in mind as the hornet is a higher grouping and it was around £300 more for me to insure and a zx6 from around then will be similar.

both hornet and zx are same insrance at £400 a year 3ptf vs sv at £350 3ptf with 2 year ncb im 18 and bike will be garaged

company are paying to repair dads car not through insurance so thats not and issue

and both bikes will be restricted

also the zx has wide bar conversion

both the hornet and zx look like they are in very good condition

i have had 3 offs (inc 1 one crash) first off was in the wet and my error broke hard while on the lean and the front went was, about 5mph minimal damage (mt-03 with rubbish tires) second was in september with the sv on black ice once again was 5mph nothing i could do about it and the one i just had

Consider a cb or cbf 600 the basic versions of the hornet.
If your budget streches far enough conisder a early er-6 if your not fussed about a in-line 4

The G2 sounds amazing standard. Amazing airbox sound and has "resonators" to achieve this either side of the clocks.

Never ridden one with a bar conversion but that would get rid of the perched on top feeling I got (6'2") and looking down through the screen for the clocks which I never liked.

A rocket once it got going even with my slow mate riding it. Typical Mean Green Kawa. And at the time I thought it handled like a razor compared to my Firestorm.

Comfy, frugal and with a decent tank range to take my mate to the South Of France a coupla times no bother.

I had a lend of a Hornet for a while (1999model I think). Crap range, wheezy engine, a lot of noise for not a lot of go, filler cap does not have a hinge!

But! I think its a fantastic looking bike, timeless IMHO and after I de-crudded the bike had a good build/finish. Really comfy too and got up to 120 easy enough if you rev the tits off it. Not really a fan of tupperware torpedoes but.......

If you offered me the two of them I think I would go Kawa as once derestricted it may be more of a keeper. And it was a top 600 (if not the) at the time whereas the CB was still budget, certainly suspension wise. And I'll mention the noise again!

Nice choice to make anywayz!
