Default Who knows about magpies?

One for bird nuts out there. I was looking my garden the other day, counting up "One for a boy, two for a girl" etc as I spotted what looked like quite a few magpies. Does anybody know what 11 magpies is? Apart from vastly too many for one garden, obviously!

My grandma saluted a lone magpie the other year, tripped over the kerb and broke her arm.

Apparently she now salutes a lone magpie in a rather different manner.

One is too many. They kill almost as many fledgling birds as cats each year.

When a group of them, and their hangers-on (usually crows), start making a racket you can bet some poor scrawny thing that's just been encouraged out of it's nice cosy nest is being murdered. Or a wood pigeon that just happened to be in the wrong place. Hateful things. Thankfully the dog chases them when she spots one in the garden but she's not out there all the time.

Can you tell I don't like them?
