Default Trousers for summer touring.

Planning another summer trip in Spain and wondered what people wear for hot weather riding.

Last year I wore mesh trousers and TBH I wasn't too impressed. Firstly I find it hard to believe they'd be much good in an off, the armour's OK but the material... Secondly they were still fairly hot, esp off the bike and were minging like a long-dead badger after a only few days.

My leathers are more winter leathers (Richa Street) and I rarely wear them in the summer here coz they're just too hot. (I live in Mallorca)

Contemplating some track leathers with perforations as a possible option but wondered what other people wear when on trips in the heat.

I ride solo so I like to be as well protected as poss, just in case...

Cheers

I just bought RST Kevlar jeans for 85 quid, with adjustable CE knee armour and pockets for hip armour (which I have anyway), but I guess thats not what your after for protection

Hi mate, I've got a pair of Red Route jeans, I use them for day rides here but they're not overly protective. Got a pair of Hood jeans that have great protection but are as hot as hell, probably coz thery're well made and almost fully lined with Aramid (plus I have some expanding gut issues with them at the mo....) The other thing is how manky they'd get over two weeks of daily use... Last time out it was high 30s C most days.

One thing I would recommend for kev jeans are the knox flex knee guards I was having probs getting the armour to stay somehwere near my knee but with these you just slip em on, whack the strap around and they stay right where you want them under yr jeans.

Thanks they look good although I already have a couple of pairs of jeans, Red Route and Hood. I'm interested in the perforated leather options but having trouble finding them. Teknic Mercury are perforated all over BUT the UK European option only comes NON-perforated...

Have you tried wearing chill-out type clothing under your leathers? I've heard they are good in the heat because they stop your leathers sticking to you and help keep you cool. And obviously they are a lot easier to wash.

My old leathers had mesh vents but most of the time here they were just too cold. So I would think they'd be great over there in the heat

Thanks for the input. In the end i've ordered some leathers with perforations on the top and side of the thigh and some at the back of the thigh. Plus they're more track style with material in the crotch/back of the calf. Not totally perforated but hopefully it'll be enough to allow some air movement when I'm on the move. Even my mesh trousers TBH weren't that cool due to the amount of coverage around the knee @rse and thigh areas. Still had to stand on the pegs to get a decent cooling. Don't really like textiles much either for some reason, I reckon I sweat as much, if not more in them than I do in leathers. Nothing like having yr nads wrapped in nylon in the blazing heat...

Will be taking my red route jeans for "casual Fridays"

I'll write up a review on here when I get back. Off in a couple of weeks, can't wait!!!

@Darren. Am trying some boxers designed for running that are supposed to take moisture away from the skin to see how they go.

Hmm interesting. I'm planning on doing an Alps/Pyrenees trip next summer and was thinking of getting these

http://www.alpinestars.com/shop/cate...ir-flo-jacket/

http://www.alpinestars.com/shop/cate...air-flo-pants/

and take my bike jeans with too. But I don't fancy sitting in ball soup the whole time. I usually wear a chillout top on hot days (hot for over here I mean ) so think i'll get some bottoms to go with them if these aren't that well ventilated
