Default Summer Hols

Well just back from town with new national maps of France and Germany, the German one also covers Prague, now where can we go for 2 weeks? in the car this year, as daughter is coming with us, still at least that will mean a few more comforts.
The plan is Dover-Calais, then a quick stop in Dunkerque, then on to Bruges, through Germany stopping somewhere between Bruges and Colditz?, then colditz two nights, on to Prague 2-3 nights, possibly quick visit into Poland?, then back and down to Munich 2 nights, befor hitting the Black Forest area 2-3 nights, then North through Germany befor cutting across into France, Reims or nearby, then back towards Calais and home. Any thought's on how this route could be improved, or of must see places to go, trip would look some thing like this, http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=...mra=ls&t=m&z=6

I can recommend a couple of lovely little hotels near Brno and Innsbruck, if you fancy going a bit further south or east.

Oh, and don't underestimate the usefulness of the Harwich-Hook overnight ferry. It'll cut a chunk off your journey and it's pretty reasonably priced.

Cheers ogden, but don't think we will get that far, might not even make it to prague, it's all flexable though Have booked the dover ferry, just looked at your suggestion and it is about 125 quid more.
Looking at the route I reckon instead of going straight across Germany, we will come down to Cologne and maybe a bit further along the Rhein, Plan's going out the window already.

Trier is worth at least an overnight visit. The Romischer-Kaiser there is a pretty pleasant place to stay.

Heartily recommend the Mosel valley and Eifel and Hunsreuk areas (including Trier). About 200 miles from Brugge and handy for then moving on to the East should you decide to head for Prague. Great area, lods to see and do, usually a lovely climate and the beer and wine is fantastic.
If you're looking for a place to stay, we do B&B and self-catering at 15 euros pn for forum members. There's information about this and the area on our website www.river-valley-guest-house.co.uk Even if you don't stay, you're very welcome to drop by for a chat and refreshments, we always have good tea and home-made cake to hand.
Enjoy.

That's gone up a bit ain't it? I watched top gear the other day when clarkson was at the ring, he said it was a fiver.

It was about 15 quid last time I looked.

I've not really looked since, either, not least because my insurers frown on the place and I don't fancy dicing with the armco without any.
