Default PS3 help please

Yes, I'm having a bad time with tech at the moment, and now the PS3 is having an eppy.

It won't read disks. Everything else is fine.

I've tried hoovering it and using the inbuilt utility to repair the HDD (option 3) but it still won't play. I've tried playing a demo, then exiting it to the bleary drive, but no.

We don't use it for anything other than games, there's nothing stored on it we need.

How can I get it playing games again please.

Pete

Firstly try turning it upside down or if it's on it's side put it flat.

What model you got? Fatty, thinny, 40gb, 60, 80 ??

My old ps3 had the YLOD so got a new one but I stripped it and still have the disc drive which was working fine on mine, it might fit and is easy to change.

My disk drive recently went (prematurely! grr), was a simple fix once I had the part.

Is it making any unusualy noises or just simply not responding to discs?

It's the original fatty, smallest HDD. I'll try it flat.

The machine makes no noises at all when the disk goes in though.

Sounds like the common laser problem. New disc drive required. You can pick them up on amazon for £40. Easy to replace. Two connectors and that's it.

Mine went but it was under warranty so Sony fixed it but have replaced a mates.
