Hi folks i have a k6 sv650s and when i bought it i had a full service and a performance k & n filter. Since then my pal gave me a scorpion end can and fitted it and what a noise i got from it. But since then my bike has got worse and i'm thinking of putting the standard end can back on. The problem I'm having the bike runs great once warmed up but when cold choke comes on then goes off after about 30secs to a minute then bike runs ok till about 30 degrees till its really hot 85 degrees doesn't want to idle above 1000rpm. now today it sounded like its misfiring when cold it feels like the exhaust it making the bike worse every day. Don't know if the ecu is trying to fix the issue by changing the fuel to suit and f***ing it up ? don't have a clue what is going on. A friend of mine suggested to go my local dealer and get it set up on the yoshi box ? if its damaging the engine the exhaust will get took straight off and standard back on. I have checked the idle when warm perfect 1250rpm and bridged the connector for the diagnostic plug and there is no faults and fuel is correct for idle and is increased. diagnostic line on display goes to top for correct fuelling I'm out of ideas now. Just wondered if anybody has had any similar issues or are technically minded who knows what is gong on really want my bike fixed as it gives me a big grin every time i ride it.
thanks paul |

85 degrees is normal running temperature, that's not hot. when it's cold the choke stays on for a bit longer to get the engine warmer quicker.
by mis-firing do you mean popping and bangs from the exhaust? this should only be when rolling off the throttle. if so (someone correct me if i am wrong) it's the PAIR system doing it's job or detonating fuel to keep the emissions cleaner |

no its not popping, up to 85 degrees runs really bad when idling wants to cut out need to keep revs up to stop from cutting out. once it reaches 85 degrees seems to run better for some reason but when cold and I'm driving normal seems to run fine only when its idling do i have the running at idle issues and i've noticed my fuel doesn't last 140miles per tank anymore only 125 but i may be squeezing the throttle more because I'm getting more confident on bike so i can maybe rule that out. I do notice the bike popping on roll off throttle when bike is hot. but today on way to work bike was 50 degrees didn't want to idle top of my street and sometimes cuts out or wants to cut out.

very much doubt the can and filter are the problem. sounds like you have upset something elsewhere.
see your only in Dundee.. could you come down to Kirkcaldy on Saturday and i'll have a look? |

Hi there plugs were changed about about 6 weeks ago just before i bought the bike ran great only thing i have done is put a race can on it. I put 1200 miles on the bike and it seemed like it lost a bit of oil so i put some in then decided to put brand new oil in it. so bike should run great, which it does only the problem is the idle and that is the runs quite bad and sound like its misfiring i ran the bike when warm today at constant 4000rpm and sounded like it was misfiring then too. only thing i think it needs is a tune to turn the fuel up to match the increased air flow. Everything has been replaced for the service that needs it to run good that's why I'm confused. Yeah i can come on Saturday would be glad of the ride through if the weather is good.

Also KnN and Race Can? Try it with a standard OEM filter rather than change the can fist. Also check the various sensors around the air box (air temp sensor for example)
