120 70 17 - SV650.org

Anyone fitted a 120 70 17 to there sv 650 instead of the correct size 120 60 17?

unless you slide the forks through the yokes then dont bother. you end up only using 2/3 of the width of the tread you also run the risk of noise up which will run you wide on corners.

The sv handles a lot better on the 60 profile
It also can foul the mudguards

I have had a 120/70 fitted for a while now, can confirm the handling is fine I actually prefer the 120/70 over 120/60 and it does not hit the standard mudguard.

This is correct and I think I'm right in saying it is why most trackday riders/racers use this size.

I've used the 120 70 front for quite a few years now - without any issues. I've dropped my forks through about 8mm, but some people say you needn't bother. I started using the 120 70 because I was using second hand racing tyres, mainly Supercorsa SC1 & SC2's, and doing the odd track day. I continue to buy mainly second hand tyres even though I haven't done a track day for a couple of years. I am currently running Dunlop Sportsmarts and 120 60's are hard to find - so I've stuck with the 120 70's. They clear the mudguard OK but loose chippings that are dragged through make a lot more noise!

Thoroughly recommend 70's: no fork adjustment needed, prefer handling (quicker turn in), more availability so cheaper and, in theory, more grip at angles. Downside: speedo definitely reads a little slow......

Got a 120/70 , works fine. I dropped forks by 6mm to bring the trail back to standard. Glang is wrong - slower turn in than a 60 unless you drop the forks. No mudguard rub (curvy) and looks better imho.

Why 6mm? looking at the figures, you'd think it'd be 12mm
