thanks for your reply Andrew. rr is toast reading 18 plus with multi meter at 4/5000 rpm. what I can't understand why these bike are so prone to the rr failures. I have owned many bandits and never a rr problem.i also know that the firestorm have the same problem, is it down to being twins

It's down to the specification on the Rr the late 90's used a different design of reg rec as it affected all suzukis from 98 to 2003 and most hondas
sent with all the fury of a clogged drain!!

ok chaps an update.
just need advice now off you chaps with toasted r/r it was reading 18+ at around 5k, I have fitted a new r/r and with bike just standing it's reading 12.80, when I start it up it reads 12.45 on tickover but drops slightly when I rev it up or put the lights on. are these readings good to go. thank you in advance |

You may see slight dips, but it should read between 13.5 - 14.5 when at 5k+ to indicate good regulated charging voltage.

thanks for your reply, it seems that it's not charging now due to falling well short of 13/14

Check the alternator output(the 3 yellow wires from alternator to reg)Should each put out about 70 volts ac when measured against each other wire.Check all connections, and did you fry the battery? If that is caput it could upset all the other readings.

cheers mr biggles, have just been out checking the wires and found a dead wire from new r/r (the red wire), the 2 red wires didn't match up when connected, moved the wire in the junction box and happy days reading 13.60.
somethings are so bloody simple, when you put your glasses on. thank you for your replies |
