Default Second bike

I'm (sort of*) thinking of getting a second bike and letting my daughters have the run of my car. I would prefer not to load all the extra mileage on to my current bike - my daily commute is 60 miles there and back plus bits and pieces of mileage at work...

So I was wondering about something like a XJ900 or a Deauville i.e. something reasonably indestructible with a workhorse mentality.. .

Any views on these or other suggestions?

*May require some negotaiations with higher powers - would guess approx £3k would be my limit.

Good idea, and you should be able to get a Yam 900 Divvy for a lot less than £3000.No point in burning out your pride and joy on a 60 mile commute.

I've got a Deauville. Gave a description of what they're like in this thread
http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.ph...ville&start=15

Not too many problems, watch for rusty exhausts under the centre section cover (Motad and Predator do replacements), earlier ones with Brembo brakes suffered front disc problems, later ones with Nissin brakes are OK. A spate of paint falling off engine cases around late V2 early V3 (2002/3) models. Fuel pumps occasionally play up (common problem with Varaderos apparently) but easily solved.

Main issue is that you won't find a good one cheap. Cheap ones are invariably junk.

Looked after sensibly they'll go on for ever.

If you're on limited budget there are other shaft drive bikes at better value. If you can find a good one at sensible money it'll do exactly what it says on the tin.
