Propaganda at it's best I reckon.

I mean, a manufacturing plant that RELIES on getting 130 (mostly 40ft x 15ft ish) containers of parts in order to keep production going. Hmmm.

It's either a smoke screen for the real reason they've cut back, or the plant management needs firing before the whole company goes the same was as the Napoli itself.

See you missed the point there(could be those gearboxes that went missing )...the last paragraph talks about the bikes...I couldn't give a toss about the factory TBH...I did some work for them before and they are crap payers

I'd be very surprised if any manufacturing plant in the world relied solely on 130 containers, usually they'd handle more volume than that, and they'd have a warehouse nearby which kept surplus stock in case of an event like this. If they didn't they'd almost definitely have a clause in the logistics contract that stipulated that the logistics company were directly responsible for delays etc, which would mean that if the plant does have to reduce output, the logistics company would be liable for all costs arising out of that delay (employee wages, reduced profits etc etc).

I mean, in our situation, if our application causes a vessel to be late leaving the dock, we're charged £1000/hour, and that doesn't take into account the additional POL/POD fees etc.

Like I said, if they did rely on 130 containers arriving at a certain time, the management team for the plant need firing.

As for the bikes, they're insured, no loss either way. My main interest in this story isn't the bikes

Yeah, but we are British, and we don't care what other countries think.

.............Which of course is a pathetic attitude.

However, quite a lot of the modern manufacturing industry does rely on Just-In-Time techniques to avoid holding extensive stock. I read somewhere in the local press that the Sunderland Nissan factory has sufficient stock of certain parts only to last two days without deliveries, so it's quite feasible that VWSA could have problems as a result of the Napoli failing to arrive.
