Default Is this a joke ?

And here's me thinking that council tax was to pay for local government services. How very naive of me.

Don't understand your comment. It only seems a reasonable method of valuing a house to me, which is what they have to do for a council tax.

I had a council inspector come round on a Sunday afternoon a few months ago, wanting to 'evaluate my house for the councils` housing stock records', referring me to the letter I had received some time earlier.
I politely asked him to return accompanied by a search warrent and a sworn police officer. Thats the last I heard.

so once again those that invest in their homes, are threatened with more tax. This is rapidly becoming the country of choice for Unemployed Pikies. Live in squaller and get handouts and low taxes, do up your house, with your wages, and you'll get taxed more for making your house look nice and confortable. Not forgetting the Inheritance tax when you pop your clogs!

Well firstly, how does the value of my house affect my consumption of local government services anyway ? Size of house or number of occupants maybe but value, no.

Does my new bathroom suite make my bin heavier ?, do I require extra policing so people won't steal my high quality double glazing ?

No, its just silly.

OK I understand you now. You're arguing against council tax as a means of local taxation.
NOT how they are enforcing it.
I would agree with you. The only sense it does make is it's trying to follow ability to pay.

We have this already, it's called income tax.

And how does increasing tax for energy saving features like double glazing square with our greedy, sorry, green labour government?!

This kind of thing goes beyond wealth re-distribution, it's a blatant attempt by the government to further extend its aims of bleeding anyone who's not a labour voter dry.

We're in serious trouble if this continues - the shrinking number of people who work in roles that actually generate wealth can only prop up the remaining scroungers for so long.

For many years we had no kiddies, and now we have just the one and there won't be any more either. So I think that I deserve a tax break because I'm not imposing an intolerable strain on limited resources.

Being a productive member of society, you're one of the last people who'll get a tax break. If you and I don't fill ole Gordies social security black hole who will?!

I wouldn't be surprised if private firms soon have to display a mandatory motivational posters....
