Default NTL/Virgin Customers

Don't turn your set off. I did that yesterday to get the 'new' black virgin listings guide. What they don't mention is that if you do that, suddenly the on-demand service isn't free. You can still view a few of the ****ty programs from the past week, but i was halfway through watching tribe. I'm phoning up today to wangle my way out of a 12 months contract.

And as a little inane rant, why let me go through loads of bloody touch tone menus to tell me everywhere is shut at the end!

Well I'm not sure but I guess you'll still have to pay for some service or the signal won't get to your house in the first place. Looks like you can pay for a budget package and use this box to unlock the sports / movies / whatever else you want.

Wonder what happens when the provider gets wind and changes the encryption on the signal though?

Could'nt possibly say.

Virgin/ntl/telewest whatever, change the encryption codes every 6 months or so. You then have to wait about 2 hours for the new codes to be issued on t'internet and enter them into the box.

Pity you didn't raise the topic of cable earlier as Wizard had earlier versions of the starview receiver for sale at £55.

It is not an offence to buy/sell one of these boxes. However once you have installed a new version of the firmware that allows encryption to be broken you are then committing an offence if you use it to view material you have not purchased. As there is no hookup to your telephone and it doesn't respond to Virgin polls etc. there is no way they can know it is on the end of the line.

Bear in mind I have just said it cannot talk to virgin. Therefore it lacks interactive/VOD etc. But what the heck they were crap anyway
