Hi Y'all,
Haven't been posting much, me (and my manky old tank bag) have been out riding. I did run across a little problem when I went out riding with a bunch of Concourse owners on a little road trip. When I was leading the group, a buddy asked me at the next stop why I was riding so slow. I was doing the usual posted speed limit +5mph. On the next leg I let him lead and tucked in to pace him along with the rest of the group. We were all doing the 70mph speed limit on the interstate, but my speedometer said we were going 82mph. The bike has the OEM tires on it, and the sender is working, its just that the speedometer consistantly reads 120% of the actual speed. (and it is on the MPH scale, not the KPH scale.) So, Is there any way of adjusting the digital speedometer to recalibrate it? |

If you fit a 120/70 front tyre it'll be more accurate... Or get a speedo healer. But that's about it really.

![]() Hmm.. just did a search on the speedo healer. Interesting...a pulse frequency converter box. Price is a bit steep, but about the same as new front rubber (which I'm in no need of yet.) Six of one, half-dozen of the other. I guess I'm going the converter box route...shame Suzuki didn't put some little adjustment thing on the cuircuit board. Thanks |

Whilst on a spirited ride (on private roads of course) my speedo was showing 120 while my mates Gixxer rewas showing 136. Now either his is way out or mine is reading slower than I'm actually going!
This can't be good as if my speedo's showing less than i'm doing then mister plod could catch me speeding when I think I'm doing the speed limit! |

Fortunately, there's a construction area nearby on I-95 with a radar equipped speed limit sign. I can make a couple of passes past it to see how well the speedometer correction tracks with the radar gun. I'd like to get this squared away pretty soon. I start a new job on Monday and the SV650S is probably going to be my fair-weather commuter. |

Pointy speedos are known to be a dab optimistic, as long as you're aware of this I can't see it would be a problem.

Ok, back with the SpeedoHealer installed and set. It works like a charm.
Installation was very easy, and didn't require anything not included in the kit. The adapter harness was long enough to connect to the bikes wiring harness and then run parallel to the main harness up behind the instrument cluster. The converter box ended up tucked in behind the plastic access panel, behind the headlight. To get the conversion values, I used a Garmin eTrex GPS receiver. Set it up to display the velocity, and clipped it to the clutch cable. Took the bike out for a little spin, trying to hold constant speeds and record the velocity numbers off the GPS. Came up with an average of 8.5% off (82mph on the speedo vs. 75mph on the GPS) I used that number to set the SpeedoHealer. To put the unit in an pointy K6, raise the fuel tank and take off the airbox lid. Up against the frame behind the steering head you'll find the 3-wire connector for the speedometer sensor where it plugs into the wiring harness. ![]() Then I routed the SpeedoHealer's harness through the frame and up to the cage supporting the headlights & instrument panel. Then out through the access panel in the fairing on the right side of the motorcycle. When it is all done, it is hanging by cable ties off the cage and hidden by the cover. ![]() Took the bike out for another test flight and compared the GPS velocities against the speedometer. Not exactly the same, but within a mph at all times. (there's no fractional mph on the speedo, so a 49.7 on the GPS shows as a 50mph on the speedo..close enough for me.) I'll give these folks two thumbs up. ![]() Last edited by clm2112; 01-06-07 at 01:01 AM. Reason: Fixed the order of the photos to match the text |

Isn't it possibe a speedo healer will pay for it itself? I suspect a 10000mile bike will be worth a few quid more than a 12000 mile bike when it comes to resale time. |

Would only heal 12K down to 11K given the 8.5% above I don't think 1,000 miles would make a definite £60-70 on resale value. You'd be better washing & polishing
