Unhappy Possible charging problem.

my 99 sv650 was not wanting to start after filling up with fuel this afternoon but finally did. Got it home and shut it down for a few mins. and tried again and it took alot of revolutions be fore it started. then i shut it down again and tried again and the battery died. So i added the power of an optima and fired right up. So I think its a battery problem. but the I consolted a dl service manual and checked charging system. Following results
battery engine off 12.4 volts
battery ignition on high beam on 12.2 volts
battery engine ideling 13.01 volts
battery @5,000rpm 12.7 volts
From my understanding the faster the rpm up to a point should be more voltage at batt? but mine goes down.
Bad rectifier is what im thinking. Any help would be great.

Had the same prob on mine, before you go changing the rec/reg check the wiring conectors that come of it, mine were all furred up and green, just chopped the conector blocks off and hard wired it. Hope this helps.

All the connections are clean and secure. The bike started this morning and the girlfriend and I wat for a 60 mile ride. We made a stop towards the end for some drinks and when we went to leave the battery barley had enough to get her running so stopped by my work on the into town and got my battery charger. Going to start charging it when I finish this post and will retest the circuit with a fully charged battery. While I'm at it I think I will remove the RR just to look at it as I seen a pic on another thread that showed some melting on the back side. Thanks for the info and I will let you know what i find out.

Since you've checked the connections and they're clean and the readings have been taken.......

.....my HUMBLE OPINION is that you Reg/Rec is stuffed!

Hope you sort it soon.

sounds like Reg/Rec. Seems like a common fault with SVs. I fitted a Gixxer one & had no problems yet (Touch wood)

Well I just tested again, this time with a fully charged battery. I found a good flow chart on another post that was a great help as well. So now all the numbers are as they should be. That is nice because I'm low on funds and still need to make first bike payment. But I think I will watch ebay for a gixxer unit for the future as this piece will surly die one day. Thanks again for the incite and help.
