Following a trip on Enfields in India a number of years ago i've been itching to get out on the road again to do some overland travelling by bike - hasn't happened so far but it will be doing soon!
Now I've raved about the
www.horizonsunlimited.com site to a few people before, as it's a great source of ideas, support and inspiration about every aspect of overland bike travel. However the main reason i'm posting is that i've just spent a weekend at the annual UK Horizons get together, and apart from being a whole lot of fun (lots of entertaining tales, and even included a session about preparing and eating roadkill!) it has been an endless source of help and inspiration.
Seriously if you've ever thought about doing a trip like this but had doubts, this weekend is a great demonstration that there is always someone who is older, younger, poorer, shorter, less experienced, etc etc who has done it successfully and loved it - it's mainly a case of being determined to make it happen. And the people who've done trips in the past are only too happy to share their experience and help you figure out what trip/route/bike to go for yourself
So if overlanding is the sort of thing you like the sound of, check out the website and keep an eye out for the date of next year's meet and it might just give you the kick you need to set your own trip up. I've already got my eye on a Yamaha TT600 and a run through to New Zealand...
