The FI indicator and the grey cable

at work the other day about to come home, went to start the bike and the FI light came on and the priming noise you normally hear was really dodgy called KWAK to see if he could shed some light, ( i was paniking really ) as i was talking
i bent down to the side of the bike and had a look, i gave this semi thick grey cable between the frame on the right hand side of the bike a poke and hey presto shes starts,
did the same this morning, so poked the grey and it started . . .
any ideas because i think i might be using up all of my Grey cable pokes before that no longer works

any thoughts?
