Tar n chip
Glen shee has been coated over the past few days. One section from the spittal to the long straight before the ski centre. Which I rode on Tuesday this week and it was perfectly fine
Why would they cover a good road with that crap? There's also a very long section after the ski centre all the way to Braemar. There were lots of thick sections of loose gravel. The machinery was parked up at bridge of cally, so they might be doing more next week. ANND they've done the road to Tomintoul |

Re: Tar n chip
Its happening all over Aberdeenshire and its been going on for a few years now.
Cheap and nasty. Autoglass are loving it, I've had several stonechips in windscreens in the last few years. Every time a stretch near me gets done you see Autoglass vans in the neighbouring villages nearly every day for two to three weeks. |

Re: Tar n chip
Thanks for that link LPH, very interesting especially with regard to the sweeping of loose chippings. I've just had a look at the RSDA code of practice and it would appear to apply in England and Wales too.

Re: Tar n chip
It wasn't too bad compared to braemar. Not much loose gravel. It should be fine in a few days. The 20mph signs will probably still be up though

Re: Tar n chip
i find it takes about a year-two years before surface dressed road are good, only trouble is a year later they are feked again. false economy.
it cant be that much more to actually mix the tar and chip before hand then dress with chip. the longest lasting road surface i have seen is the old red chip stuff. most of it is over 50 years old and is now just starting to give up. |
