anyone got/experienced vista ?
hi, i will shortly have vista, and have some questions.
any major differences between vista and XP ? i have ton's of apps for XP, not to mention drivers for hardware. i take it, if i cant find a specific vista driver, i should just use the XP driver ? the vista system comes pre-installed on a pc, so hopefully all the major things should work, im just worried about printer, external hard drive (should be plug and play), TV card, wireless network adaptor ect ect any help would be appreciated, as would any tips or hints, or words of wisdom. thanks Warren |

I said when it came out I wouldn't touch it for at least 12 months (and I'll remain true to my word...)
Have you seen how HotFixes there are out for it already |

Re: anyone got/experienced vista ?
I'm not quite up to date with vista progs, but last time I heard a majority didn't work properly. Vista is not totally backward compatible as microsoft say.
Reading quite a few techie stories, vista was designed so that people would have to upgrade hardware as well as software. If you have any hardware/software thats more than a year old, you maybe swearing alot. Like I said not up to date but I wish you all the best if your getting vista. |

Re: anyone got/experienced vista ?
Go for the 32bit. It is the 64bit that has most compatibility issues.
I put it on my homebuilt PC about 6 weeks ago and it has been fine. The PC is an Athlon1800, 1Gb of ram and 128mb graphics, just about the minimum to run it. I have had no problems and it happily connects to the web and updates itself. I use the basic office functions, the web, wireless, tv card and MP3/Photo galleries. It is very smooth the way windows media controls the TV, photos and music. Some people dont like letting windows do everything but if it works let it. I havent tried tricking it, loading hundreds of programs, disabling some features etc.... like computer 'experts' do. I let it do its things and its fine. |
